Product & Tradition

What is Kohl Ithmid?

Kohl Ithmid is a traditional mineral powder made from naturally occurring stibnite — a form of antimony sulfide — that has been used for centuries across Arabia, Africa, and South Asia. It carries deep cultural and historical significance and is mentioned in the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Golden Oasis was created to offer this tradition with care, transparency, and honest documentation.

Is Kohl Ithmid Sunnah?

Yes. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ specifically recommended Ithmid by name: "The best of your kohl is Ithmid, for it brightens the vision and makes the eyelashes grow" (Sunan an-Nasa'i 5113). It is established as a recommended Sunnah for both men and women. Golden Oasis exists to make this tradition accessible again — sourced responsibly and presented with transparency, alongside the tradition rather than in place of it.

Why is the color gray, not jet black?

Natural Ithmid has a deep charcoal-gray tone rather than jet black. This is consistent with its natural, unaltered appearance. If your bottle looks this way, that's expected — not a sign of a diluted or incorrect product.

Sourcing & Documentation

What makes Golden Oasis different?

Golden Oasis exists to preserve the traditional practice of Ithmid, not to reinvent or modernize it. Our approach is to source responsibly and be as transparent as possible about what we offer — through documentation, education, and honest communication rather than exaggerated claims.

As part of that transparency, the product we source is accompanied by an active Saudi Food & Drug Authority (SFDA) Cosmetic Product Notification and independent laboratory documentation from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory, evaluated against GSO 1943:2024 cosmetic safety standards. Full documentation is available on our Certifications page.

Does your kohl contain lead?

The product we source is accompanied by independent laboratory documentation from an ISO/IEC 17025 accredited laboratory. That report lists lead as Not Detected at or above the lab's detection limit of 0.1 ppm — within GSO 1943:2024 safety limits. Full documentation, including the report number and testing standard, is available on our Certifications page.

What does "ND" mean on your lab report?

ND stands for Not Detected. It means the substance was tested for and not found at or above the lab's detection limit. It does not mean the test was skipped — it means the test was performed and nothing was found above the measurable threshold. See our Certifications page for the full results table.

Is Golden Oasis Kohl safe to use?

The product we source is accompanied by independent laboratory documentation showing it was evaluated against GSO 1943:2024 cosmetic safety standards, with all tested parameters passing. As with any cosmetic applied near the eye, apply gently, avoid getting excess product into the eye, and discontinue use if irritation occurs. This product is intended for adult use — please keep it out of reach of children.

Is this safe during pregnancy?

We recommend consulting your healthcare provider before use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.

How to Use

How do I apply Kohl?

Less is more. Ithmid is highly pigmented and naturally spreads after application, so a very small amount goes a long way. Start light and build gradually — you can always add more, but it's difficult to correct overapplication.

Apply using the included copper applicator for traditional precision, or the integrated glass applicator built into the cap for a gentler option. Traditionally, many people apply Ithmid using three strokes on the right eye and two on the left, following the Sunnah narration — though application varies from person to person. Always start with clean, dry hands.

Where should I apply it?

Ithmid has traditionally been applied to the waterline and lash line, and different people follow different methods depending on personal preference and how they were taught. Whatever approach you use, start with only a very small amount on the applicator — you can always build up, but it's harder to correct if too much is applied at once.

Why does it spread after I apply it?

This is a normal characteristic of Ithmid, not a product issue. Because it's highly pigmented, it naturally spreads slightly after application — part of its traditional character, unlike synthetic eyeliner formulas designed to stay perfectly fixed in place. The most common reason for excessive spreading or smudging is simply using too much product. Start with a very small amount and build gradually if you'd like more definition.

Can I use Ithmid while wearing contact lenses?

If you wear contact lenses, we recommend applying Ithmid before inserting your lenses, or after removing them, when possible. Apply gently and avoid direct contact between the product and your lenses.

How do I clean the applicator?

Wipe the applicator with a clean cloth after each use. If needed, clean it with a small amount of 70% isopropyl alcohol and let it dry completely before returning it to the bottle. Avoid introducing moisture into the kohl container, and don't share applicators between people.

How do I store it?

Keep the bottle closed and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

How much kohl is in each bottle?

Each bottle contains 10g of kohl.
